Link bait is pretty much the most effective SEO tactic. All you need is a good idea and some time, then the links and traffic start rolling in. There are many funny, interesting, controversial, or plain nuts things one can do on the net to catch some attention. Just too bad if you are in the adult business.
Of course, one could start a free video site, burn a boatload of bandwidth, and then get sued for copyright violations. But there is so much free porn already, that I honestly wonder how there are still pay sites making a living.
But even if there was a good idea, the adult industry seems to be the unloved ugly step child of the internet. No one links to a site which has even the remotest connection to adult entertainment. I am not talking hardcore porn here, mind you. Put a clean banner to a mild adult dating site on your page and see how fast people will drop your links. "Oh my god! We have to protect the children! The devil has a penis, too!". Yeah, right.
I tried a Google Earth database for outdoor sex. Google Earth is geekish blog bait. Combined with outdoor sex this should make a great "bash the sicko adult webmasters" topic. At least it should get some attention from a few pervert forums. Well, it didn't.
So what can we do to get a piece of this yummy cake? Aren't you tired of submitting galleries to TGPs and setting up the same site with a different layout for the umpteenth time? We don't even link to each other, because we put a price tag on every link. Why give free traffic to something cool, when we can monetize it? We rarely try something new, and when we do we only aim at brainless hornboys. We have spoiled the word "free" for other internet marketers. And when we create link bait, it will have "credit card required" written all over it.
You know, we really are the ugly step child.
